Tom loves anything to do with Lewis and Clark so this area was especially exciting for him!
We left Portland and drove to the coast. It's a little daunting to drive a 40' motorhome
towing a car across this bridge. I glad I don't drive the motorhome!
This is our Thousand Trails campground for this area
We were blessed with a somewhat clear and dry day and it's not always like this in Washington!
This point has two lighthouses because of the dangerous waters coming into the mouth of the Columbia river. There are hundreds of shipwrecks in this area.
It looks pretty peaceful today and we saw lots of people enjoying the coast.
The beach had massive amounts of driftwood on the beach.
On our coast people build sand castles - on this beach people build forts!
Look at the color of the sand. Very pretty!
There were tons of people fishing from this jetty.
We were told that the salmon are starting their journey to fresh water and fishing is pretty good.
The second and most used lighthouse
And Cape Disappointment. I always wondered why Lewis and Clark would call this point Cape Disappointment if they were so elated to arrive there.
I learned that it was named by an English fur trader in the 1700's.
A very nice museum - we spent several hours going through the exhibits.
What an amazing feat to come from St. Lewis to the west coast!
There were some pretty amazing things that happened along their trip -
nothing short of miracles! God was obviously guiding their trip!
A tour around the Long Beach peninsula
Duggers in Long Beach for lunch (my favorite - Salmon)
